I think I can, I know I can.

Stuck in traffic? Run out of milk? Battling to see the wood from the trees? It’s pretty easy to get sidetracked by the pressures and inconveniences of everyday life. Sometimes, you just need to stop and think about all the positive things around us. By actively engaging in positive thought we become the masters of our own destinies. When we feel in control, everything seems achievable. So, here are five simple things you can do that will help you think and be more positive.

Stop trying to keep up with the Jones.

Worrying about the success of others does nothing to change your own circumstances. Focus on what you have and what you’re doing and you’ll immediately start to feel more positive because you’ll be putting your energy into things that are within your control.

Redefine failure.

Understand that falling down is a necessary part of picking yourself up. Michael Jordan once said: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Act as if.

Even if you don´t feel positive, confident, calm or decisive you can make the conscious decision to act like you do. And after you have done that for a few minutes, guess what happens? You will actually start to feel positive, confident, calm or decisive.

Live in the now.

Don´t let your thoughts drift into the past or future more than necessary. It’s often a sure-fire way to start negative loops of thoughts in your mind. What you’re doing right now will always be more important than what you’ve done previously or what you plan to do in the future.

Show appreciation.

Remembering how good you’ve got it is a simple thing you can do to bring more positivity in to your life, and is a great way to turn an angry, sad and frustrated mood around.

So, think positive thoughts and good things will start to happen.
